Repair Methods of Mechanical Seal Leakage

1. Countermeasures for poor mechanical seal action


First of all, use an O-ring with good wear resistance and good rubber elasticity. This ring can still maintain its inherent shape and size in the event of slight damage, and continue to maintain the sealing effect. The O-rings generally used for sealing are mostly rubber or PTFE. PTFE mainly has the effect of corrosion, and it can be used as a corrugated gasket or a V-shaped pipe. Under high temperature or low temperature conditions, bellows made of stainless steel and other materials are generally selected as the sealing ring. If a rotary mechanical seal is required, the sealing ring must use an O-ring for sliding sealing.


We can consider using a static mechanical seal with a long service life, and install the static ring on the shaft side and the moving ring on the casing side, so that the device will not be affected due to mechanical deformation. At the same time, it also plays a good role in maintaining the flatness of the structure. At the same time, the spring in this installation mode does not contact the sealing fluid, and the action has been well improved. It provides great convenience in removing the slurry and maintaining the flatness and machine accuracy of the seal.


The influence of heat on mechanical seals is also very large. Heat will lead to material denaturation and deformation of parts, resulting in changes in load capacity, which greatly reduces the working performance of the seal and the situation of being burned. The treatment method needs to be determined by the size of the heat, such as natural cooling, inner circulation cooling, outer flushing cooling and inner circulation cooling, etc., and the temperature of the sealing is controlled to achieve the best sealing effect.


2. Countermeasures against the sliding surface of the mechanical seal


In equipment maintenance and overhaul, carefully check the equipment for wear and scratches to ensure the accuracy of the static ring surface. At the same time, the use of static mechanical seals can solve the wear problem well. Another method to solve the thermal deformation of the seal due to the change of the material stress of the sliding part is to change the holding method of the O-ring or the graphite ring of the sealing ring from the sliding form to the plug-in type.


3. Countermeasures to prevent dry sliding of mechanical seals


If it is dry sliding caused by insufficient cooling when sliding is heated and the sliding surface is damaged, we can choose a more complete configuration of sealing fluid, cooling water and temperature control unit. At the same time, we also need to conduct patrol inspection on the supply pipeline to prevent blockage. When choosing a mechanical seal, it is best to use a static mechanical seal with better pulp resistance, which can better prevent dry friction from occurring. In addition, strengthen the operation management of rotating machinery, check various parameters and states such as the pressure of mechanical seals on time, and solve related problems in time, which is very important to maintain the integrity and normal operation of the machinery.
